Officials say a 14-year-old girl died Tuesday evening after being rescued from the water at an Ohio water Park.
According to a news statement from the sheriff’s office, the girl fell under around 5 p.m. and wasn’t found for another half hour.
Authorities identified the victim as Mykiara Jones.
According to police and other officials, Mykiara was evacuated to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she subsequently died.
An investigation is now underway.
The proprietors of Land of Illusion announced on their Facebook page that the water park has been closed and that they are working with investigators to figure out what happened.
On Wednesday, many who knew Mykiara began to express their grief.
The Middletown School District put out a statement alerting the community about Mykiara’s death.
Mykiara was a student at Middletown High School in the fall, according to Superintendent Marlon Styles, and her mother worked in the school system.
The institution provides counseling services information to students, teachers, and other members.
