Officials say a 14-year-old girl died Tuesday evening after being rescued from the water at an Ohio water Park.
According to a news statement from the sheriff’s office, the girl fell under around 5 p.m. and wasn’t found for another half hour.
According to police and other officials, Mykiara was evacuated to Dayton Children’s Hospital, where she subsequently died.
In a statement, Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones stated, “This is a tragedy no parent should have to go through.” “These are the calls that first responders dread and struggle to handle. The family is in our thoughts and prayers.”
An investigation is now underway.
The proprietors of Land of Illusion announced on their Facebook page that the water park has been closed and that they are working with investigators to figure out what happened.
“We ask that you join us in extending our heartfelt sympathies and thoughts and prayers to our guest’s family and friends, as well as the team members and guests who were on site last evening during this tragedy,” the owners stated.
On Wednesday, many who knew Mykiara began to express their grief.
Jennifer King, Mykiara’s middle school teacher, told Cincinnati ABC station WCPO, “Mykiara was simply a terrific student, and she was a beautiful human being.” “I’m heartbroken because she could have done anything she wanted with her life.”
The Middletown School District put out a statement alerting the community about Mykiara’s death.
Mykiara was a student at Middletown High School in the fall, according to Superintendent Marlon Styles, and her mother worked in the school system.
The institution provides counseling services information to students, teachers, and other members.
“We send our heartfelt condolences and prayers to Mykiara’s family, friends, and instructors. We wish the family comfort and serenity at this terrible moment “According to Styles.
