Los Angeles Airport, A Man Jumps From A Moving Plane

LOS ANGELES — Authorities say a passenger was transported to the hospital after jumping off of a moving plane at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday night.

According to the airport, the FBI, and SkyWest, United Express aircraft 5365 was pulling away from a gate soon after 7 p.m. when the guy tried unsuccessfully to enter the cockpit by beating on the door, then succeeded to unlock the service door and leaped down the emergency slide onto the ground.

Authorities said the man was apprehended on the taxiway, treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and brought to the hospital.

According to the airport, the twin-engine Embraer 175, which was bound for Salt Lake City, returned to its gate.

There were no other passengers or crew members on board who were hurt.

According to the website flightaware.com, the flight department left late Friday evening for Salt Lake City and arrived early Saturday morning.

The FBI is looking into it, according to Laura Eimiller, a spokesperson for the bureau.

It was the second time in two days that LAX had been disrupted. A motorist crashed through a chain-link fence at a FedEx cargo facility on Thursday and onto the airfield, straddling runways as police pursued the vehicle. The motorist was apprehended, and no injuries were recorded, according to police. Two runways were temporarily shut down.
