Fans were outraged when HBO unveiled the first full-length trailer for the forthcoming “Friends” revival episode, claiming that late-night talk show host James Corden, who never starred in the hit sitcom, was included.
Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer all appeared in the widely awaited teaser. The stars can be seen revisiting the show’s sets, re-enacting scenes from previous seasons, and engaging in a live panel discussion in the trailer, which was released on Wednesday.
The panel tended to be moderated by Corden of “The Late Late Show,” who was seen asking the cast members questions about their tenure on the iconic 1990s sitcom.
Fans were able to point out that they were not Corden’s mates.
One fan indicated that the legendary program should have gone for a host who had previously performed on the show.
“Please don’t misunderstand what I’m doing. Since 2004, I’ve wanted a Friends reunion, but if anyone had told me James Corden would be in it, I would have told them not to bother “another fan commented.
Since the sitcom’s record-breaking finale in 2004, “Mates,” a show of six friends in their 20s and 30s who lived in New York City, has risen to cult status. Throughout its ten-year run, “Friends” has maintained a high level of viewership and ratings.
The show was first shown on NBC between 1994 and 2004.
The HBO Max streaming service is set to release the special reunion episode on May 27.
