No Survivors Found After Florida Firefighting Helicopter Crashes During Training Exercise

LEESBURG, FLORIDA – Officials say a firefighting aircraft carrying four people crashed near an airport in central Florida on Tuesday, killing at least one person.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the helicopter crashed into a swamp near Leesburg International Airport during a training exercise at 4 p.m. ET.

According to a post on Leesburg Fire Rescue’s Facebook page, one corpse was discovered Tuesday night and no survivors have been found.

The collision seems to be a total loss, according to the article.

Rescue personnel was still trying to get to the wreckage hours after the collision to check whether there were any survivors, according to Leesburg police Lt. Joe Iozzi, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will conduct an investigation. Officials did not provide any further information right away.
