A Spanish man called the “Cannibal Of Las Ventas” was sentenced to 15 years in prison. According to a statement from the Madrid, Spain provincial court, Alberto Sanchez Gomez murdered his mother at the apartment they shared in Madrid in early 2019, following an argument between the two.
Officers discovered pieces of the body stashed in Tupperware boxes when they arrived on the scene. Gomez allegedly put additional pieces of his mother in the freezer and garbage bags, according to court documents.
The defense argued Gomez was “psychologically disturbed,” but the judge dismissed the allegation.
During the trial, the court heard that Sánchez, who was 26 at the time, killed his mother during a disagreement. Over the next two weeks, he dissected and ate portions of her corpse, feeding some to his dog.
Local media have dubbed Sanchez the “cannibal of Las Ventas,” after the Madrid neighborhood where he and his mother used to live.
Two South African men were sentenced to life in prison for murder in December 2018, in what has been termed the “cannibal case” by locals.
Mbatha later led police to a home where they discovered more body parts. He later denied consuming human flesh, but he and another guy, Lungisani Magubane, were found guilty of murder.
