Many young girls aspire to marry their father one day. Most people, however, do not react as strongly to the news that it isn’t feasible as 3-year-old Bella Atkinson did.
The Atkinsons of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, haven’t been able to see their Wisconsin-based relatives as frequently as they’d like, so Bella has been enjoying gazing at photographs on the family’s stairwell. Her mother said she came upon a photo from her parents’ wedding one day.
“‘You and your father are married?’ she inquired. ‘Yes, do you suppose you’ll be married one day, too?’ I said. She got a sorrowful look on her face after realizing her dream boyfriend — Daddy Matt — was already taken after she thought about it for a long. “What followed was the dialogue in the video,” Atkinson said on “Good Morning America.”
Bella and Matt are “very close,” according to Atkinson.
“He educates her about the outdoors and how to be strong and courageous, but he’s just as happy to be her favorite customer at the ‘beauty shop’ to get his nails painted or give her extra kisses on the couch in a ‘cuddle nest’ of blankets and pillows,” Atkinson said. “Every time she hears him come in from work, she dashes to the door, and I’m not sure which of them is more delighted when dad answers the door.”
Bella is willing to share her father with her mother for the time being. “It’ll be an easier adjustment as she gets older to understand she needs to meet someone else to maybe marry,” Atkinson said on “GMA.” “He’s obviously raised the bar for any future males that come into her life.”
